Guest guest
Dear Members: A few months back, there was discussion in the List about whether kamban was a vaishNava or not. The detailed account that was provided by SrI Hari Krishnan recently through his over 60 postings on kamba rAmAyaNam should have helped the readers get an appreciation of kamban, the great devotee of Lord rAma. I was just going through the latest issue of SrI nRsihma priyA (December 2002 issue). I wanted to bring to the attention of the readers the serial that has been appearing in the Journal, with the title "kamban kavi amudham". Those who are interested can go through these write-ups, and get a feel for his great devotion to AzhvArs and their works. The series of articles on kamban in the PriyA is by va'ngIpuram SrI V. N. GopAla deSikAchariayar svAmi. In the current issue, he points out that though even the current day practice in the Indian TV serials etc., is to depict kamban as a Saiva, he is in fact a great vaishNava. The series by SrI Gopala deSikachariayar svAmi deals with kamban's composition praising nammAzhvAr, titled "SaThakopar AntAdi". Needless to say, there are lots of very useful articles that are found in the different SrI vaishNava journals published by the different ASramam-s and Mutts. Those who are interested should to as many of these publications as possible, and benefit from these. I had listed over 10 of these publications a few days back in our List. -Krishnamachari
