Namo Narayana

Is Hanuman an amsam of Shiva?

This has been lingering in my mind for a very long

time.

In the Hanuman Chalisa there is a line that says.

'Shankar suvan kEsari Nandan tEj PratApa MahA Jag

Vandan'

This suggests that he is an incarnation of Shiva.

We also know that Swami Desikan has mentioned that

Shiva is one of the devout Bhaktas of Sriman Narayana.

As for Rama avataram - the devas are said to have

taken different roles of VAnarAs(Monkeys),

Pakshis(Birds) etc inorder to enjoy and do Kainkaryanm

to the AvatAra Purushan.

Can the learned members please clarify?

Namo Narayana,

Yes I did receive a couple of replies.

None of them clear and convincing. Someone just

mentioned that he is an Avatar of Shiva. However, I

still need to confirm with sources.

I am trying to find out from some other learned

members and sources on what is mentioned in the

Valmiki Ramayana. I will try to find out and once I

get a reply I'll surely forward it to you.
