Guest guest
SrI: SrImathE Gopaladesika mahadesikaya namah: Dearest Srivaishnavas, Today’s pAsuram: 24th- anRivvulagam aLandhaay aDi pORRi:- As per the girls’ prayers, KaNNan came out walking so majestically; so handsomely, like a youthful lion he walked and sat down on His singAsanam for everyone to witness and enjoy His divine beauty. They are so overwhelmed with His beauty (so is ANdAL in their words) and AndAL sings paaLLNdu thorugh Gopika’s words like her father. Her father did it when he saw Him on GaruDA. Now AndAL sings pallAndu for all His deeds that had happened earlier. A step ahead of her father. anRu ivvulagam aLandhaay aDi pORRi- You measured the whole Universe with your feet that day- when You appeared as Vaamana. You puriefied the upper world with one foot and with the other foot covering worlds below. Everyone was blessed with your touch. May that divine lotus feet of yours live for millions of years after years! Praise to Your feet. How did He measure the Universe? Did He one step for the lower worlds and one for upper worlds? It appears like this: He grew so huge and tall as Trivikraman and He raised His left leg above and the left toe was seen by chathur mukha BrahmA . By looking at the Sankha rEkhA, Chakra rEkhA, Kalpaka rEkhA, dwaja rEkhA, padma rEkhA and the colour of red lotus feet, BrahmA identified that it belongs to Sriman Narayanan- the unparalleled Lord- Parabrahmam. He made use of the opportunity to perform Thirumanjanam for the same from his khamaNdalu and Sivan got himself purified by taking those Thirumanjana waters on his tresses. The other foot grew so huge and it touched the entire world below. Thus, he covered both worlds in one measure. Also- anRu ivvulagam aLandhaay- You measured the worlds those days- during mahApraLayam- when you took the entire leelA vbhuThi with all Jeevathmas in the small corner of Your stomach and reclined on a small Banyan leaf as Baby. Vedanthacharya enjoys this wonder. You measured the worlds so in that form in such minutest way. Also, when creation commenced by Your sankalpam, You manifested in everyone and everything “sarvam khalu idham brahmA”- and aLandhaay.. (measured thus). May those divine lotus feet be there for millions of years with us in Srivaikuntam. anRu seNru thennilankai seRRAy thiRal pORRi- That day- You (when appeared as mere human being as Rama) took friendship with monkeys and built a bridge on stones acroos the deep vast ocean to go to lanKA and victoriously fought a battle with the mighty Ravanan and destroyed his kulam completely. Even that sEthu (where the bridge was built and touched by Your divine Lotus feet and of your BhAgawathas) darshan alone will remove all sins; Thus, the Sethu was made even more sacred that Ganges (which is Vaamana pAdha Gangai) by You as Rama. May those lotus feet live for millions of years after years with us along with Them. ponRacchakatam udhaitthAY- You kicked the wheel (sakatam) asurA when you were an infant. Kamsa had sent an asurA o kill you and he appeared near You (when you were lying down as baby) and attempted to roll towards You and crush You. You kicled with your small cute charming feet and destroyed the wheel thrown to pieces. Also this is only symbolic as everyone of us- Jeevathmas are surrounded by Sakatas (wheel). This Chakram (sakatam- wheel) is karma vidhyAdhi chakrE prathipurushamihAnAdhichithrapravahE..”- Karma- papa, puNya chakram; avidhyA- due to the karma- the vibharItha jnAnam, the dHeha prApthi, anjnAnam etc..- that chakrA; sukha dhukka chakram- and the chain of briths and deaths like a wheel- are all crushed if one goes towards Your feet- (surrenders to Your lotus feet); thos feet simply kick these charkas and crush them to dust. By some non-performance of wrong deeds (sometime or other – by a jeevathma accidentally- which is also considered by Lord as some good action and He mercifully arranges) enables SadhAchArya sambandham and get to know Sampradaya, SaasthrA jnAnam; gets to know the upAyam of Saranagathi and surrenders to Your feet. Such lotus feet burns all sins and the whole wheel of Samsaaric afflictions completely. kaNru kiNilaa eRindhaay kazhal pORRi. – When vasthAsura appeared as calf and came near You with an attempt to kill you, You noticed that asurA by its different eyes (thiruttu muzhi and not loving affectionate eyes like other calves) and took the calf by its tail and swirled the calf hitting against the another asurA (who came in as viLAm pazha tree) so that your friends could eat the fruits and enjoy as well.. your marvelous deeds can not be described in words at all. May Your such grandest deeds and Your lotus feet remain for millions of years after years with us. kuNru kudaiyaay edutthAY guNam pORRi- all the above is nothing compared to this stupendous action of Yours. It was raining cats and dogs; torrential downpour sent by Devendhran to show his might against you; and the whole Ayarpaadi with ten to fifteen lakhs of cattle, the cowherd folks were all losing their homes; their shelter and food. You immediately lifted the huge Govardhana mountain to give shelter to everyone (of those 15 lakhs- 1.5 million cattle and cowherd folks) under the mountain. How many people! How many calves? For Seven days- where and what did they eat? It is told you made them feel absolutely full of stmach and no hunger at all for seven full days. How did the stones from the mountain not fall down? How did you lift the who;le thing with Your little finger? Did not pain? How everyone had such a mahAviswAsam on the little Boy and come under? How did You life- upside down or as it is? Though we also saw underneath the mountain and were there near You, thinking of all this- makes our heads swirl KaNNA! You are simply divine. May Your such merciful guNA live for millions of years after years! veNru pagai kedukkum ninkaiyil vEl pORRi- May the sharp spear of Yours (which is in your Hand; which destroys your enemies effortlessly) be there for millions of years! Here, the spear is vEl- The ChakrathAzhwAn is the One which is referred to (Poorvacharyars say) as ChakRA is full of thousands of spears all around. Also when KaNNan went to Deva lOka to get the Parijatha tree (celestial tree) for SathyabhAma- Subramanya fought with KaNNan; KaNNan came back victorious with the tree and as a symbol brought the vEl with Him to declare His Parathvam. So there can be no doubt that this line refers to some devathantharam- as Gopikas address KaNNan who is sitting there calling Him, “nin kaiyil vEl pORRi. Okay. You all have been praising me like that- and never seem to stop. You all said, “Think why and what we have come for- in last pAsuram? Tell me what is that for. “. What shall we do? KaNNA! Once we saw Your gait, Your divine beauty, there is no way that one can stop but praising Your lotus feet. jithanthE puNdareekAksha! namasthE viswapAvanA! namasthEsthu hrishIkEsa! – we feel like doing only that. There is no fruit other than that for us. This itself will lead one to perform saranagathi at your lotus feet automatically soonest. Your dayA will make arrangements for us to perform BharanyAsam. We have now come to attain Parama Purushaarttham. We have spent so many millions of births. We have wasted all those births. Today, due to our some unknown puNya (as vyAjam) you mercifully made us be born here in your place and in your time. It is our Bhagyam. Also it is Your grace that we got ourselves involved in yoru kalyANa GuNAs. In addition, when You ignored us due to our ahankara, mamakaram,we did not go away in depression and anger; Your dayA again made us be steadfast in our path to Your feet. Whatever be the suffering or paribhavam, we will not go back without His Lotus feet0 was our determination and it is Your dayA only which enables us to be so firm. We have come to You now with no ahankaram at all; please have mercy on us (irangEl). What is this> Just now You asked me to climb and sit on the SimhAsanam; and now again, You say, “iRangEl..” climb down- not the Ra and not ra..) GopikAs laugh.. and said, “even if you interpret that way with vallina Ra.. fine. It is iRangEl—meaning “do not climb down.. Just be there always for us to enjoy Your darshan and bless u with Paripoorna anugraham. Please read from vidwAns' commentaries about other greater details- Srimath MukkUr Azhagiyasingar ends with such great humility. anything good - the credit goes to the divine commentary of SrI Mukkur Azhagiya Singar's. Guest guest
Sri: Srimathe Ramanujaya Nama: Dear Smt Rajalakshmi, This is what I have read about this. "eRinthAy" definitely shows the action of the hands while "kazhal" is feet. So, there appears a little contradiction here. Our acharyas explaint this as, that the yadava girls are praising the beautiful and "veeram polintha" feet of Krishna as He walked toward the calf to pick him up and throw him. I would venture that they are praising His tender feet as He had to use them first to walk toward the calf. Personally, adiyEn thinks that our Azhvars and Acharyas are so enamored with His lotus feet which is the source of our surrender ("thiru-k-kamala pAtham vanthu" says ThiruppANAzhvAr), that they use every opportunity to praise them. For example, "paraman adi pAdi" says Andal in the second pasuram, and not "paramanai-p pAdi". The other interesting thing that I read about this pasuram was that after praising His divine avayas or His divine guNas in a row ("adi", "thiRal", "pugazh", "kazhal", "guNam"), Andal suddenly switches to praising a weapon ("vEl"). It is described that just as Dasaratha and his sons were known to always keep a bow, so too Nanda and his sons are known to keep a spear - "kUrvEl kodunthozilan nandagOpan" says Andal. But why praise the spear suddenly? The vyakhyanam said that after praising Him, Andal suddenly realized that someone might cast an evil eye at Sri Krishna upon hearing all of these great things about Him. So, Andal is saying, hold on, it is not all Him; He was using weapons too; so don't go about casting your evil eye on Him. After all, she is the daughter of Periyazhvar and His mangaLam will be in her mind always. adiyEn madhurakavi dAsan TCA Venkatesan --- RAJI SRIDHAR <sridharaji wrote: > kunila yerindai! -- "Kazhal poRRi" > > here kazhal means 'feet', hope i understood the > meaning correct.
