Guest guest
Hare Krsna Swamiji, i read this wonderful mail and loved it as much as all the previous ones, but i have a small doubt about one thing. As far as my limited knowledge of the Lord's names goes i think keshav doesnot have a thing to do with His hair but means One who sleeps in water, Ke being the root letter for water and shavam meaning sleeping. correct me if i am wrong . your eternal servant Gokulchandra das
Guest guest
for both Mr Krishnaswamy and Gokulchanra das Both of your intrepretation of KESAVA is wrong according to my GURUJI The god who killed demon KESI is called as kesavan Refer Narayaneeyam Hariharan > As far as my limited knowledge of the Lord's names > goes i think keshav doesnot have a thing to do with > His hair but means One who sleeps in water, Ke being > the root letter for water and shavam meaning > sleeping. > correct me if i am wrong . > your eternal servant > Gokulchandra das
Guest guest
I came across somewhere that Keshava is described so as he was the one who slayed the asura hose name was Keshi. I am also told that it certainly also has to do with possessing attractive 'Kesha', hair. Guest guest
Sri Krishnaya Namah! I have also heard Kesava denotes - ke = Brahma; sa=Vishnu; va=Maheshwara. I don't know the veracity of this, although. sukumar Sri Krishna Parabrahmane Namah!! Guest guest
Dear Bhagavatas; Here is an excerpt on the topic from my book "Oh! My God". Dasoham Anbil Ramaswamy ================================================================ HARIVAMSA ( 46 ) In HARIVAMSA (3.31.48) it is explained why SRI NARAYANA is called KESAVA. SIVA addresses Sri Narayana and says "Brahma's name is 'KAH' and I am known as 'ISA', as I rule over all embodied beings. Both of us were born from your limbs. Therefore, you are called KESAVA" Kah iti brahmano nama isoham sarva dehinam Avam tava ange sambuthou tasmat Kesava namavan. ================================================================== > >V Kamban [sMTP:parakaalan] >26/02/2003 10:38 PM >bhakti-list >Re: "A Hairy Story" > >dear bhagavathas > >one among so many explanations for kesava here is one > >kam ithi brahma >iisa: >thava angE vasatha(2) ithi kEsva: > >to substantiate this in saivism also there is stage of >lord shiva as kesavardha(4) murthi > >yours >parakaalan > ===================================================================== Note from Moderator: Those interested can visit the following for the nAma keSavah. http://www.ramanuja.org/sv/bhakti/archives/feb2002/0015.html ======================================================================== >\
