Dear Members,

In modern times, when Sita marries Rama, her name changes to Sita Raman - Sita,

the wife of Rama.

In ancient times, when Rama married Sita, he was known as Sitaraman or Sitapati

- Rama, the husband of Sita.

Some other examples:

Lakshmikantan, Lakshmipati, Radhakrishnan, Radheshyam, Gopikrishna, Srikantan,

Umapati, Umakantan, Umamaheshwar.

No more proof is needed, I suppose, for the proposition that women were held in

high esteem in the past until, in some century a long time ago in Kali Yuga, men

staged a coup, took control and relegated women to the background. Since then,

the state of human affairs seems to have declined steadily with emphasis on

aggressive individual advancement instead of peaceful Lok Kalyan. I sometimes

wonder if the present turbulent state of society would not have come into

existence had women had been in control and the emphasis continued to be on the

Home, not the business place or the battle-field.

Dasan,

Krishnaswamy M.K.
