Dear BhakthAs of SrI Raamachandra!

The Saahithyam Paasages for this Jayantha Sri

Krithi are :

Pallavi:

MarugElaraa? Oh Raaghava!

Oh Raaghavaa! Why do You hide Yourself

from me ?

Anupallavi:

MarugEla ? CharAchara roopa! ParAthparaa!

Soorya-sudhAkara lOchana!

Being the indweller of all animate(ChEthanam) and inanimate

(achEthanam) entities as Visvaroopan and shining as the Supreme

Most Lord with the very Sun and the Moon as Your two eyes ,

Oh Raama , why do You conceal Yourself from me ?

CharaNam:

anni neevanuchunantharangamuna

dhinnagA vEdaki telisikOntinayya

ninnEgAni madhi nEnnajAla nOrula

nannu BhrOvavayyaa , ThyagarAja-nutha

(MarugElaraa ? Oh Raaghava !)

Searching my own heart and mind with assidious effort ,

I have realized that the whole Universe is nothing but

Yourself .I do not think of any one but You. I can not

even think of any one except You. Oh Raama ! Why hide

Yourself from me ? Oh Omnipresent Lord! Please come out

and protect me .

In this dhainyOkthi Krithi, ThyAgarAja SwamigaL

touches on number of doctrines dear to SaraNAgathAs/

PrapannAs :

1. ananya gathithvam : Recognition that there is

no one else except the Lord as the recourse and

protector .

2. MahA VisvAsam: Total faith in that Lord as

the Sole protector and SaraNAgatha Rakshakan.

3.KaarpaNyam: Begging for that Lord's Mercy

with immense humility in a spirit of total

helplessness.

4. gOpthruva VaraNam: Soulful Prayer asking Him

to stand in the place of all UpAyams and protect.

5. Parathvam: Recognition of the Lord Shining Supreme

among all divinities and presenting Himself as the Visvaroopan ,

the indweller of all entities (chEthanams and achEthanams) of

the world .

The Lord as Sarva VyApi

************************

"Charaachara Roopaa" is the address of ThyAgarAja SwamigL here.

"Anthar-Bhaisccha Tath Sarvam VyApya NaarAyaNa: sTitha:"

salutes the Upanishad. He pervades the sentients and

the insentients both inside and outside as VishNu NaarAyaNan.

The Lord is present in the heart of the sentients with

the size of a thumb and rules the entire universe as

Prabhu.The PrANAgnihOthra Manthram housed in

MahA NaarAyaNOpanishad refers to this angushta-mAthra

Purushan , as the Self of all beings(Self of Selves) :

angushta-mAthra: PurushO-angushtasccha samAsritha:

Isa: Sarvasya Jagatha: Prabhu: preeNAthi Visvabhuk

Katopanishad points out that the person of the size

of the thumb residing in the middle part of the body

of the UpAsaka is the Lord of the past and the present

as well as the future. For fear of Him , the fire burns ,

for fear of Him , the Sun shines (TaittirIyam:II.8.1

and BruhadhAraNyakam:III.8.9).

Besides being the indweller, SwamigaL refers to

His CharAchara Roopathvam ( Visvaroopathvam)

as seen by Arjuna in the middle of the battle field:

TathraikasTam jagath-kruthsnam pravibhakthamanEkadhA

apasyath DEvadEvasya SarIrE PaaNDavas-tadhA

--SrImad Bhagavath GeethA; 11.13

(Meaning): There ( in that form of Visvaroopan) ,

Arjuna saw the whole Universe , with its manifold

divisions assembled together at one single spot

with in the body of the God of all gods.

About His CharAchara Roopam , Our GeethAcharyan

reminds us:

AhamAthmA GuDAkEsa sarvabhUthAsayasTitha:

Aham aadhisccha mahyam cha bhUthAnam anatha yEva cha

--Bhagavad Geethai: 10.20

(meaning ): Oh ArjunA! I am the Self dwelling in

the heart lotuses of all beings. I am the Beginning,

the Middle and the End of all beings.

yacchApi SarvabhUthAnAm Bheejam tadham Arjuna

na tadhasthi vinA yasyAn mayA bhUtham CHARAACHARAM

--Bhagavad Geethai: 10.39

(Meaning): I am also That which is the bheejam/seed of

all beings.Oh ArjunA! Nothing that moves (ChEthanam )

or that deoes not move (achethanam), exists without Me.

Of all beings , whether they exist in manifest

(pratheeyamAnam) or unmanifest (avyaktham) , I am

of that vyakthAvyaktha state. They do not exist without

Me, as their Self/antharAthmA.I am the Self of all

things.

In the next few GeethOpadEsams , the Lord describes

further His Visvaroopathvam ( CharAchara Roopathvam

and ParamAthmathvam saluted by ThyAgarAja SwamigaL

in this Jayantha SrI Keethanam) this way:

" There is no limit ot my Divine manifestations

(nAnthOsthi Mama VibhUtheenAm Paranthapa).

Whatever being possessed of power, or a splendour,or

of energy , know that as coming from a fragment of My

Power(tEjOmsa Sambhavam)"... Bhagavad Geethai :10.40& 41.

This Jayantha SrI Raga krithi contains thus the seeds of

great doctrines associated with SaraNAgathy yOgam.

Splendid indeed is the Raama Bhakthi of SrI ThyAgarAja

SwamigaL that created this and so many other gems of

Krithis and presented them as RaamArpanam.

Please worship this Lord as Venakata Raaman at

ThiruvahIndhrapuram.
