greetings. it's been a long time since this topic was discussed, but i've just

remembered that satyajit ray has a children's story called "indigo" in which it

happens that a man falls alseep and wakes up as somone else without realizing

until he looks in the mirror.

That is an interesting situation. If he does not realize that he has

awakened as someone else, that implies the continuity of that sAmAnya, that

sameness of consciuosness which we experience as I. Satyatjit Ray seems

also to be suggesting that in our first waking moments we have not yet fully

"put on" the jIvatwam, the individuality which is born in this life.

Sometimes great creative minds have deep insights into these things. Perhaps

Ray was a meditator and had figured this out for himself. Don't really

know if that is so but if it were, we might think he had an understanding

why brahmamuhurta (4 AM) was considered such a powerful time to meditate or

do other spiritual practices.
