The Bhasya of this mantra beautifully reveals various aspects of the 'realisation of the Self viz-a-viz our thoughts'. - Panchadasikara says that absence of perception of names & forms (all thoughts being consciousness as conditioned by some name & form) doesnt amount to their negation. What is called for is the discernment of their mithyatvam. (6/13) - In the shloka 30 of 'Drg-Dryshya Viveka' the teacher says a man of knowledge revels in samadhi inspite of his thoughts. - In Br.Upa. also a beautiful discussion has been initiated by Sri Sankara regarding the above topic. I will shortly send its reference too. Love, Swami Atmananda
Guest guest
Swamiji, thank you very much for those references elucidating experience in the light of advaita: they express the precise medicine needed right now! In examining those passages I cross-referenced 'ahaM brahmeti' of PD 6.16 to 'ahaM brahmAsmi' of bRhad. 1.4.10: Shankara's long commentary on this is very pertinent to this subject. Therein he raises the topic of the unfailing eternal vision in relation to the transitory vision in the dream and waking states. Unless corrected, I shall assume that this is the passage in the bRhad. commentary that you intended. I need to work through those references slowly: the passages are certainly a lot more meaningful in the light of your recent posts. Thank you very much for shining that light over my shoulder as it were: the nature of the 'problem' is now much clearer. Thank you! Kind regards, Charles.
