Guest guest
My name is Carl Hays and I reside in Miami,Florida. I have been a lifelong student of Eastern and Western philosophy and I just returned from a two week retreat in Andra Pradesh, India. I have practiced meditation for several years and was delighted to discover this list so I might deepen my understanding of Sankara's non-dual philosophy. It is a pleasure to be with you. Blessings- Carl in Miami
Guest guest
Greetings Shri Jyothi Vijaykumar: Welcome to the advaitin list. Your previous messages did appear on the list on the list and I have reposted here. Thanks for your thoughtful thoughts on the subject matter and we are looking forward to more articles from you. I noticed that several postings including your posts got lost in the list archives. The mailing list had a computer glitch on that day and they have not been retained in the archives. I have reloaded files to archive # 131. Thanks again and have a nice day! -- Ram Chandran List Moderator First Message from Jothi Vijaykumar appeared on 28 Jan 1999 ========================================== FW: Free Will new entrant's message Thu, 28 Jan 1999 20:02:50 -0500 Jyothi Vijayakumar <nandini advaitin "'advaitin '" <advaitin > Jyothi Vijayakumar <nandini >namaste, >I have been following the postings on this list for sometime and recently >decided to . >As a student of Advaita, I have thoroughly enjoyed the discussions. >The discussions on "Free-Will" was informative. Sadanand's posting. Namaste, Thank You for the prompt reply. It seems as though this discussion on Free-Will has endless potential to educate me. The will to be free is born out of free-will But in ultimate freedom there's no free-will. Just a rejoinder regarding the concept of surrender. It seems there are different degrees of surrender and this issue was a sticking point even among the VishisshTAdvaitin scholars. Surrender with a degree of human effort is likened to the trust a baby monkey places in his mother's ability to carry him from tree to tree. He clings to her belly by his own strength. Whereas a kitten turns limp when her mother carries her to a place of safety holding her by the throat. pranaams, vijayakumar >"Jyothi Vijayakumar" <nandini > >namaskaarams to everyone in the list, >I have been following this list for a while and started writing my >impressions on the topics of discussion recently.
