Guest guest
Greetings Kathirasan: I believe that the referenced quotation is the derivation attributed to the Upanishads. When we have the Wisdom, we will be able to understand the underlined Truth: "We can never change the world but we can change ourselves to enjoy the world as it is." With the full influence of ignorance, we believe that the the world will change in order to suit our desires! Several variations of this quotation has aslo been stated by Mahatma Gandhi and also by the Indian philosopher Dr. Radhakrishnan. When Kennedy was the President, Dr. Radhakrishnan visited USA ( he was the President of India at that time) and Kennedy had lots of respect for the visiting philosopher. Kennedy was aplolgizing to him that the reception which was originally arranged in the open area was moved indoor because of expected rains. The philosopher thinker replied beautifully: " We don't have control over the rains, but we can prevent the rains falling on our head by moving inside!" (Source: I have read this incident stated in one of the biographies of President Kennedy) In the USA, a popular framed quotation available in the supermarket for living/dining room is the following: "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and Wisdom to know the difference." Though the source is not given is a dramatized version of the Truth from the Upanishads. If In reality, no change really takes place! Note: The second verse is from Isa Upanishad, Verse 6 also quoted in Tagore's Preface to the Principle of Upanishads: "He Who sees all beings in his own Self, and his own Self in all beings, lives in peace" -- Ram Chandran Burke, VA
