Guest guest
Namaste I decided to change the name/subject of this thread before I get too famous. :-) I am very happy that many of the learned list members were able to throw light on the above subject. I once attended a lecture in the Ramakrishna Mission on Shankara. The speaker for that day was Dr John Grimes. He quoted an example which proved that the subject of gender belongs only to the physical attributes of the body. He went on saying that if a man had a sex-change operation yesterday and wakes up today in the hospital bed, he would find his mind unchanged. He was there yesterday and today, after becoming a she. This proves that the mind has no gender. Therefore, the identification of the mind with the body is the first mistake. One more thing: Do these views we have all expressed trying to break down the gender barrier/biasness in spirituality have any scriptural basis? Did Shankara or his disciples say anything that is consistent with our present views in their texts? Please help. Om Shanti Kathi
