this is also such a fascinating comment that i want

to say something but don't know if i can do it well

enough. assuming that the above is in the case of a

transsexual, the very point of having the sex change

would be so that the perceived female mind would be

unchanged while the (male) body was changed to match

the gender of the mind. in other words, the female

mind wants a matching body, and this is the

motivation for the "man's" operation. it's most

certainly an erroneous identification of the mind

with the body because the very idea that the mind or

body have inherent gender is artificial. such a

pathological response is only possible in a bipolar

system of gender where there are two and only two

possibilities, even if there are "grey areas." jiva

has no gender, but it's very possible for someone to

believe his mind has gender and that the gender of

his mind doesn't match the sex of his body. in these

cases, both mind and body belong to the same category

which is constructed by arbitrary (i.e., linguistic)

notions of gender.

i can't comment on this, but i'll check the

concordance to sankara's works and try to compile a

list of citations on the issue.
