in the sankara concordance, there were no topical

entries on women, any variant of "sex," or gender.

there were no entries on marriage.

there was one citation on women in bhagavadgita at

1.41 and several references in matsyapurana,

arthashastra, the laws of manu, but i won't list

these unless anyone is interested. generally,

they're somewhat predictable.

there's also a modern essay that i came across,

"varieties of hindu female asceticism" by lynn tesky

denton.

Namaste

Thanks alot Maxwell. I would like to see the citations with the

permission of the list owner. Moreover, I know another verse in the BG 9:32

about women.

Yesterday, while I was reading a book on the Gayathri, I found a

certain verse from the Manu Smrti which says that in the earlier days, women

too learned the Vedas and did the Sandhya Vandanam. Let me extract the

portion and post it to the list after the weekend. Regards.

Om Shanti
