Guest guest
Greetings: I am forwading the enclosed message from a friend to the list. Enjoy! Ram Chandran ================================================================= Hari Om! Recently on PBS, there was a program by Dr. Wayne Dyer (March 11) that I viewed by chance. His talking about Patanjali and Yoga sutras and about Sri Nisargadutta Maharaj impressed me and lured me to watch more. Following are some of the insights and observations he made that I liked and learnt. ******************************************************************* * Snake bite never kills people! Only the venom left by the bite when it is re-circulated in the body causes harm and death. Likewise, no experience has lasting bad effect on us. But certain experiences leave a tendency within us, which we strengthen by repeatedly dwelling on it over and over again, creating addiction or bad habits. If we take care about the thoughts we think, we get over any addiction or habit. * Our nature is to heal. A finger that is cut, slowly with time closes itself and heals the wound. It is inherent in our nature to heal. But if we try to reopen the wound again and again, we never let the wound to heal and create needless suffering. Likewise, for mental wounds too. We just need to close them and let them heal. Re-opening and re-living past hurts will not let them heal and moreover is against our own nature. * When we squeeze an orange, we only get orange juice! What comes out is what is inside. Likewise, when stress and pressure squeeze us, only the nature of the thoughts we keep entertaining inside gushes out. Hence, always think good thoughts. * Forgiveness is the fragrance that violet sheds on the heels that crushed it. * Even in ancient times, electricity was still there! Just that we didn't plug in! God's power is always with us. Only by prayer and meditation can we plug into the source of that power. * All arguments, particularly within a family, are about who is right! Practice being kind instead of being right. With kindness, it is actually easy to make others see the light! * We are given two magic wands. The first one, gives anything we want. The other one gives peace every minute. Which one to choose? The second wand is the Spiritual Knowledge. The problem with the first one is, it gives only what we want. And what we want may not be what is good for us. * There is a big difference between knowing _about_ God and knowing God. We feel satisfied by just knowing _about_ God and sometimes even confuse that to be knowing God. * True nobility is not being better than someone else. True nobility is to be better than what you used to be. * Small Parable: Some young people of a village were captured and kept in a prison during a war. All the rest of the villagers want to help the captured young soldiers. One of them chooses to sacrifice all his lands and donate with that some food and water for the fellow citizens inside the prison. Another one gives away all his money to provide them comfortable bedding and clothes. A third philanthropist donates his all to provide them medicines. But, one person in the village finds the keys of the prison and gives it to the prisoners. The last person is the spiritual Guru! Only a spiritual Guru can provide us means to set ourselves free! The rest do help us, but only to make us unhappily comfortable! The permanent happiness and deliverance is given only by the spiritual knowledge. ******************************************************************* Hari Om -Srinivas ===================================================================
Guest guest
Thank you, Ram, these are all good insights. I have always been very impressed with the insights of Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj myself. One thing he says, When the 'I am myself' goes, the 'I am all' comes. When the 'I am all' goes, 'I am' comes. When even 'I am' goes, reality alone IS... It is wonderful that there are so many teachers, and so much powerful and inspired insight. My thanks be to Ishvara that humanity is not limited to only one human teacher, or one yoga, or even to a handful, but the insights of many are there, like the many flowers that bloom in a flower garden. I don't know if in the program you mention, the insights by Dr. Wayne Dyer are his own, or that of another. No matter, as All are One. A good insight is a good insight, he who offers is unimportant compared to the insight itself. Thank you for offering these.
