The random ideas on manas or mind from Gummuluru Murthyji are fine but this

part seems to need little adjustment

Buddhi (Intellect) can be perhaps better understood to mean a specific

function (or determining faculty) of the mind and not as something separate

from the mind.

Any other thoughts on this?

namaste.

There are eleven organs which make up the spiritual man. They are the

five karmendriyAs (organs of action), the five jnAnendriyAs (organs of

knowledge) and the inner sense organ, antahkaraNa. The inner organ,

antahkraNa, undergoes various modifications depending on the function

and context. It is variously called buddhi, vijnAna, manas, citta,

ahamkAra etc. They are not different but are the same antahkaraNa.

Shri Shankara discusses this in BSB 2.4.6, 2.3.32 and 2.3.37.

Various upanishads (e.g. Aitareya upanishad III.1.2) also touch on

this.

Regards

Gummuluru Murthy
