You're confusing Jnana and Raja yogas. Jnana (discrimination) can be practiced from any physical state, even while physically dying and in tremendous pain (in fact, sometimes the mind tends to be extraordinarily clear under those conditions). Raja (meditation) is a little trickier, but an unhealthy body does not necessarily make it more difficult. The trick is only to find a comfortable position with the spine straight, and not to fall asleep during meditation. Not exactly "rocket science."
