Not if one has trained themselves not to. It is quite possible to train

the mind to stay awake in the context of meditation, lying down. The mind

simply has to learn the distinction between "This is meditation" and "This

is going to sleep" and internalize that distinction. You are free to

believe or not believe the statement, but it comes from "my" personal

experience, and I have no reason to tell you an untruth.
