The only thing I would disagree with in your post is the ultimate importance of sitting upright during meditation. What is most important is that the spine is straight, and the head not tilted to either side. I meditate in the "corpse position," lying down on a hard, flat surface with arms and legs spread apart. This keeps the spine straight and the head at the proper angle at all times. The pressure on the back of the head and buttocks can become uncomfortable after long meditations in this position, but it is nothing compared to the pressures of gravity inflicted on the body in an upright position. The only potential difficulty to the "corpse position" is the increased possibility of falling asleep. For those who choose to meditate in this position, this difficulty must be overcome one way or another.
