Advaita simply means nonduality. Since you only "solicited" an answer from the 'senior devotee' of the list, I'll speak no more. If you are intellectually convinced by the doctrine of advaita, you are already initiated. If not then you need to get convinced in the doctrin. By being a memeber of this list serve you are in a way have opened your mind to the concepts of advaita. Now it is your hands. Feel free to raise questions that are not clear and by discussions one can get convinced on the truth of advaita. Then you are initiated. Hari Om! He states that first one has to learn and believe the principals of advaita and then to meditate on those principals by meditation on the 'self'.
