Can you throw any light on the following question I have received on our

website?

warm regards

Hi,

I recall some mention in "Autobiograhpy of a Yogi" of a small bright blue

light seen between the eyebrows at some stage of meditative development and

Sw.Muktananda had a lot to say about it as well. His successor indicated to

me recently that I did experience the "blue pearl" Muktananda referred to.

I've tried finding other mentions of such a thing apart from Muktananda but

could find nothing apart from a quote (attributed by Muktananda to Tukaram).

Could you please tell me what (if anything) such a blue light might mean

according to the Ramakrishna/Vivekananda school?

thanks sincerely,

Allan Curry

i don't recall reading that in

AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF A YOGI. because

at the time i was also interested

in finding out about it; since

i've seen this blue-white dot on

dozens of occasions over the course

of 10 years or so...(the last time

was over 7 or 8 years ago).

however, to my understanding,

any such visions are signposts on

the path, to encourage and inspire

the sadhaka. in of themselves they

are unimportant and *not required*.

this has been emphasized numerous

times by Sri Ramana.

I fully agree with Frank's assertion about the "Blue Pearl Visions."

These statements are sometimes used for encouragement or inspiration,

but at othertimes they are made to attract audience just as the

following:

"As you sit in meditation, after some time, a Blue Pearl Appears like a

flash of lighting." This quote is on the back of Classic Champa

Incense, the traditional meditation incense that the founder Michael

Rose of the Incense company by the name Blue Pearl Incense! The Incense

was originally imported when the company started its business. In this

case, the quote implies that by using the Blue Pearl Incense, it is

possible to attain the Blue Pearl Vision! I am quite disturbed to see a

number of modern Meditation Centers and Yoga Centers (they are located

all over the world!) operate as though they are entertaintment centers

with false promises/ and misleading claims.

Visions, sounds and other phenomena belong the side-effects of Kundalini

(K.) awakening / rising. Having been a member of a K. list for over a year,

I could conclude that although many of the phenomena are similar for

different experiencers, the stage of unfolding where a certain phenomenon

occurs can greatly differ. For this reason I consider discussing the

phenomena a serious drawback, unless they are causing distress. Those

involved will invariably interpret their development being at the "highest"

stage, if stages are known. Probably for this reason the Buddha choose to

describe the accompanying K. phenomena at attainment of nirvana in such a

way that it wouldn't make any sense "before", only "after".
