Guest guest Posted July 29, 1999 Report Share Posted July 29, 1999 Some of you remember my post a few days ago about the Falun gong sect that practised group meditation based on Taoist and Buddhist techniques. Well the news is out about what the Chinese government is doing to Falun Gong! Government officials are burning the group's books, casettes, and videos. Chinese authorities are also on the move in Hong Kong condemning the sect and pushing for similar persecution of harmless sect members there! Remember the gaurantee of human rights given when Hong Kong went back to China just a year ago? I tried to rally some support and people are telling me they don't want to hear about it! That boycotting won't do any good, much less a note to a Congressman..nonetheless, I think we should stand in solidarity with the Chinese people who are being persecuted by their government! If the Government of India were to try this with say burning Advaita literature or Buddhist texts, there would be such a cry that would go up it would split the UN headquarters roof in New York! Unfortunately, I think because these are Chinese people, that they don't quite deserve the same response! I don't like to say this folks, but sometimes I think we're too rapt up in our comfortable little corners to give a care about people not unlike ourselves who happen to have had the misfortune of peacefully meditating and being harmless in the "wrong" country. - Art Gregory lgregory Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
