Guest guest
>What are the requirements for New members ? > >New members shall provide a brief background information about their interest in non-dual philosophy to the list members. I am a new member. My interest in non-dual philosophy goes back 25 years to my college days, where I was a philosophy major in America specializing in modern continental philosophy (mainly phenomenology and existentialism). My interests were of course broader than my areas of specialty, and I sought some aquaintance with Eastern thought, and came to prefer Vedanta to Buddhism. I was very impressed with the philosophical and poetic writings of Sri Aurobindo Ghose. I understand that Aurobindo's view is often called "neo-Vedanta" and may differ in some respects from classical Advaita Vedanta. I don't pretend to be a specialist in this area, and I look forward to learning more about Vedantic perspectives here. My interest is deeper than mere intellection. I'm sort of a 'natural born mystic' and have derived benefits from yoga practice as well as other spiritual endeavors. But I think I was gifted with a certain mystical sensibility since childhood. I don't claim to be enlightened, but I'm not totally alienated from the Self, either. I feel intimate with the Self, but short of Self-realized. I find this pleasant, but I seek greater intimacy and union. Aurobindo influenced my philosophical reflections, and I'm very pleased to have become familiar with his wisdom. After my philosophical studies I went on to study computers and law. I hqave a law degree and practiced law for five years before settling back into the computer field. I am a consultant with a major consulting and IT services firm. Hope this satisfies my new member obligations. Welcome to advaitin List and I look forward to listening to pearls of wisdom. Just a small point on the above quote "liberation of all". As I understand, liberation of all takes place if one is liberated. There is no individual moksha. > > Ken > Regards Gummuluru Murthy ------
