Guest guest
Namaste and goodbye for now, > If you want to prove that advaita >is worng, you are on a worng list serve. I do have some honest problems with Advaita at this time and voiced them candidly and (I thought) with respect but perhaps not enough to suit you. "No worries", as the Australians say... :-)) I'm setting the list " No-Mail " option for the indefinite future but welcome any direct eMail anyone may care to send... best of luck with your path, -A. Guest guest
Namaste: I understand that you have honest problems and all such problems can be resolved peacefully. I know Sadanandaji and he did not ask you to quit. He was just suggesting that faith is an integral part of an enquiry. There is this famous quotation from St. Augustine: "Faith is to believe what you don't see and the reward is to see what you believe." Some fundamental belief is in the philosophy of Advaita is necessary during the enquiry. It is impossible to resolve all the questions intellectually. Several of your postings do indicate that you want to resolve your questions intellectually and I have to admit that it is an impossible task. Self-realization can be explained through a famous story (similar to Plato's cave) about people inside a dark cave. We are in a very similar situation. One person in the cave was a seeker and tried hard to find a way out of the cave. Finally, the seeker managed to get out of the cave and enjoy the sunlight, open sky, trees, etc. This is personal experience. Then the seeker wanted to share his experience with others in the cave and went inside and tried to explain the beauty of world outside the cave. However, no one believed the words of the seeker except for the one. The one who had the faith on the seeker (Guru) became a student and agreed to follow the footsteps of Guru. The Guru told the student that when the student gets out of the cave, he (she) should go back to the cave and get one more laying down the same condition. This Guru-student relationship and passing on the knwoledge from generation require "faith" and faith is the most important ingredient to the path of salvation. This story and example typies how the sages and saints of India (also elsewhere in the world) passed on knowledge (Vedas) from one generation to the next generation. In conclusion, it is fundamental, that we need faith on Vedas (the Sanskrit word Vedas means Knowledge) and the realized saints and sages and the only proof for Advaita comes from Vedas and from the realized souls. Finally, I hope that you realize that Sadanandaji expressed an honest opinion and you should contemplate on it. Then you can decide whether you want to quit or not. Please understand, that all those who replied your questions also showed politeness just like you!
