Guest guest
To all members of Advaitin Electronic satsang: Pranam from new member It is our family sampradayam (formal ritual) to pay respects to the the sabha (gathering) before assuming a place among them. I have been introduced by Mr.Madhava Kumar Tirumella from Jeddah where I am also presently employed and I thank him for this favour. My Name is: P.B.V.Rajan (Prathivadhi Bayankaram Varadha Rajan) My age is 51 yrs, married with 2 daughters, native of Kanchipuram, Tamilnadu, India, born into Iyengar family and thus formally a Vishista dwaita - though honestly I don't know what it means. My education: BE from College of engineering Pune, MBA from IIM Ahmedabad( 1971-73), then 7 years in Bombay, 10 years in Kuwait and last 8 years in Saudi Arabia & Madras intermitently as my family settled back in Madras. My first daughter 3rd year student in IIT Madras. Second one still in school. Wife is from Chengleput. My interest in Indian spiritual matters in a meaningful manner began only before 2 years when I ran into Madhava. I was surprised to find someone so knowlegable in Hindu scriptures in place like this which is not very condusive for such interests. Generally Iyengars are brought up not to pay much attention to Lord Shiva & advaitin philosophy. I have consciously decided to ignore it for following reasons: 1) For my personal growth as an individual, I realize the need to learn the truth about myself in terms of mind & atman. Advaitin philosophy has good tolls for such self analysis. At this stage I am still an observer not for or against the theories, because I even don't know yet what it means really or what another theory says. So I have to cure my ignorance. 2) I have set for myself, a social role as a self appointed communicator to the Young Hindu generation explaining in simple English and with relavance to modern day to day life, the basic Hindu concepts and arriving in the course of such communication at some work practices which improves the profile & performance of the community in 21st century. I also feel that it is important that matters be presented in such a manner that it appeals to a wide variety of nationalties, not just Indians. In this I want to distinguish between Social Hinduism which I think what most Indians practice and Spiritual Hinduism which like Mathematics or Physics needs a formal study and some conceptual knowledge.
