Guest guest
Hari Om: Shri Gummuluruji's posting on Jagatguru Adi Sankaracharya's work on Soundaryalahari is quite important. Shankara's devotion and dedication and poetic ability is expressed beautifully in those verses. Shankara's advaita philosophy can be better understood when we divert our full attention to the meaning of the verses and subtle messages behind them. Soundaryalahari is also available in multimedia CD (compatible with Windows 95/98/NT) and in Audio CDs. Those who enjoy Indian Classical and those who want a background music for meditation, this is a great resource. Hari Om! Ram Chandran ======================= Soundaryalahari on CD-Rom The CD starts with the opening verse of Soundaryalahari, ``Shivaha Shakatya yukto, yadi Bhavati Shaktaha'' and contains 100 verses, each one blossoming like a lotus, in praise of the Supreme Goddess, ``Shakti'' and a symbol of true devotion in the Siva-Shakti'' duo. Soundaryalahari and CD-Rom. Whatever could this union mean? Such are the powers of imagination that could spark some path-breaking marvels in technology and change people's lives and perceptions. The tangible reality is the launching of ``Soundaryalahari'' as a CD-Rom, CD audio and audio cassette - a Fifth Century verse presented in a 20th Century format. It was under the auspices of Software Frontiers Limited - a Gujarat-based company promoted by the TVS group and Fidelity group - that the CD-Rom was developed by Mr. R. H. K. Varma, Head, Creative Multimedia, Software Frontiers, and D. V. R. Seshadri, Director, Software Frontiers. The hymns have been sung by Asit Desai, Hema Desai and R. H. K. Varma. This auspicious debut by Software Frontiers begins with a ``Srichakram'' with soothing voices taking over the main hymn ``Anandalahari'' (the waves of bliss - verses 1-42) and ``Soundaryalahari'' (the waves of beauty - verses 43-100) well known collectively as ``Soundaryalahari,'' and believed to have miraculous cures for urban stress, claustrophobia, poverty, etc. More than 200 pictures have been used for the interpretation, in the CD-Rom. ``This work, an ocean by itself, caters to the specific wants of the reader or worshiper. This multimedia interpretation mainly concentrates on the literary and mystical values of the work,'' say Mr. Varma and Dr. Seshadri. The CD-Rom has features such as legends, explanations, Sanskrit words and verses, English glossary and transliteration, rituals and methodology of worship.
