Need for Guru

Dear friends:

We are new comers to the list. We have been reading the learned discussions

on

guru and finding the truth.Sri Ramakrishna Paramhans once told a story about

tasting a mango. He stated that instead of getting busy with counting the

number of trees, the branches on the tree, taste the mango yourself. Enjoy

the taste.

If I have heard about the delicious fruit and want to taste it, I have to

talk to a person who has tasted it. This person only can tell me when and

where to get it. He can take me there or may even bring it to me. He is the

one who will instruct me to discard the skin as well as the seed. I AM THE

ONE WHO HAS TO GO AND PEEL THE SKIN, THROW THE SEED AND ENJOY THE TASTE AND

THE FLAVOR OF THE MANGO. I AM THE EXPERIENCER & THUS IS THE IMPORTANCE OF

GURU WITH OUT WHOM I WILL NEVER KNOW WHAT A REAL MANGO ( SELF) IS.

Hari Om:

Let me take this time to introduce Nirmala and Suresh for sharing the beautiful

observation of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa. Bhagawan Ramakrishna answered the

question regarding the "role of Guru" profoundly.

I know Sri. Suresh and Srimathi Nirmala for over 6 years and they organize a

Gita Satsang at their home in Northern Virginia. They are greatly interested in

Vedanta Philosophy and have great respect and love for Vedic Traditions, Culture

and Traditions. They have shared their and wealth and wisdom for the supporting

Chinmaya Mission, Arsha Vidya Gurukulam, Kanchi Kamakoti Peetem, and temples and

other cultural organizations. We are quite fortunate to have their membership

to this list. They are both very interested in participating in all the

discussions, and due to time constraint, they are not posting as much as they

woould like.

I am excited to see their first posting to this list and I am looking forward to

their thoughtful comments and articles. I suggest that they should share their

Satsang discussions on Gita.

regards,

Ram Chandran
