Guest guest
Greetings Advaitins: It is my great pleasure to introduce Frank Maiello and Greg Goode as moderators to the Advaitin List. Frankji and Gregji are founder members of this list and have been actively participating in discussions. Frankji and Gregji are quite knowledgeable and they have demonstrated their dedication and interest in Shankara’s Advaita Philosophy. Their addition as moderators will be a great asset and support to the list and to the moderating team. On behalf of all of you and the members of the moderating team, I sincerely thank them for accepting this additional responsibility. Frankji has a nickname ‘egodust' and a great admirer and devotee of Ramana Maharishi and here is brief paragraph in his own words: “ I became aware of Vedanta through the approach of Theosophy in 1968. Two years later I discovered the teachings of Bhagavan Ramana, simultaneously commencing the practice of Self-enquiry, which has served to be the single greatest influence. Subsequently read and studied the Adviatic sastras, including the Astavakra and Ribhu Gita-s, the Yoga Vashishta, Tripura Rahasya, Advaita Bodha Deepika, Sat Darshana Bhashya, and many others, including of course the Upanishads and Bhagavad Gita. Although I maintain an eclectic approach, in my view the way of Vedanta seems to be the most lucid and thorough in terms of applied psychology. Below is a list of some my favourite Advaita classics: 1. The Complete Works of the Sage of Arunachala (From Nan Yar to Ulladhu Narpadhu); 2. Ashtavakra Samhita; 3. Essence of Ribhu Gita by Prof. N. R. Krishnamoorthy Aiyer; 4. Tripura Rahasya; 5. Vasistha's Yoga by Swami Venkatesananda; 6. Vivekachudamani; 7. Advaita Bodha Deepika; 8. Jnana Vahini by Sri Sathya Sai Baba; 9. Kaivalya Navaneeta; 10. Sat Darshana” Gregji’s good nature is revealed through his surname Goode and here is a brief paragraph in his own words: “My formal education includes a B.A. in Psychology from the University of California, Long Beach; a doctoral fellowship at the Universitaet zu Koeln in Cologne, Germany, and a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Rochester. My dissertation was on the relationship between reason and time. Besides self-study in the Gita, Upanishads, Panchadasi and other advaita texts, I have studied advaita vedanta through the Manhattan (NY) Chinmaya Mission study group, and briefly through the books and audiotapes of Swami Dayananda Saraswati. For the blessing of lasting happiness and the ending of all doubts, I would count among my primary teachers some from the West, and some from the East. From the West, there have been George Berkeley, Brand Blanshard, and Francis Lucille. From the East there have been Adi Shankara, Ramesh Balsekar, Krishna Menon (Sri Atmananda) and Nagarjuna. My current professional employement is in Computer Support at a large Manhattan law firm. I serve as a co-moderator on the list, and beginning January will begin advaita teaching non-dualism and introductory Vedanta at the Atmananda Yoga Center in New York City.” Regards, Ram Chandran
