Guest guest
As I understand it: Swami Vivekananda is talking about whether the world is objective or subjective, ie., whether 'IT IS therefore WE SEE'(realism) or 'WE SEE therefore IT IS' (called as 'subjective idealism', if I am correct). If we look at our experience of the 'world', there is a stimulus(sv calls as x) which trigger a cognition in our brain(sv calls as reaction). Now, whether the stimulus is 'outside' or 'inside' is again only a conclusion in the brain. That conclusion is based on our concept of 'outside' and 'inside' which again is only based on our previous 'reactions'. So, there is no way of saying whether the stimulus and the cognition are outside or inside us. The 'ourside' or 'inside' themselves are not definable (because they are 'reactions' themselves). Also, the reaction to the stimulus is based on our previous 'knowledge' of the 'world' which is based only on our previous 'reactions'. So, the 'world' is undefinable as it is. This is 'idealism'. But, sv says that since there are perceptions by multiple brains (for example you and me) and many x-reaction(sv uses 'x+mind') cycles going on (many in each brain), and those brains seem to influence one another (since the world itself has been reduced to perception by idealism), a 'realism' about it cannot also be dismissed. So, world as it is, is an idealism-realism mix and a hypnotic circle or influence.
