Guest guest
hello all. i am a new here. i have not read many of the books that is discussed on this list, but i hope to eventually. i have read this mailing list for a couple weeks and find the discussion very interesting. here are some analogies i thought of, to see if i understand this philosophy correctly. suppose you have a computer in front of you, you type certain things in (input) and then it prints things out (output). you are probably doing this right now. suppose that there is nothing in the universe except for you and this computer. you will entertain yourself for awhile, but then you will start to understand how the computer works, and then you will know what the output of the computer will be without typing anything first, and then there will be nothing, no reason to use the computer, and therefore no reason to do anything, because there is nothing else to do in this universe. now suppose that there is nothing but you, not even a computer, so you build a computer to amuse yourself with. then, so that there will be something to do, you decieve yourself into thinking that you don't know how the computer works so that you can have the fun of seeming to make something happen. eventually you might be totally caught up in this game. when i was a child i would do a trick like this with my old comic books, i would pretend to not remember what happens so i could have the fun of reading the comic book a second time, a third time, etc. another analogy is that if you tickle yourself it doesn't work, but if you get someone else to tickle you then you start laughing. even though you may have told the person to tickle you, and so you really are tickling yourself in this sense, because you gave the order and you know that you gave the order, you fool yourself into feeling like you are being tickled. if you realized non-duality then you would stop being ticklish. of course this is just an analogy. it would be more accurate to say that you would remain ticklish but you have some sense of detachment from this sensation?
