Guest guest
Are all desires bad like the mosquitos? I thought that there are good desires too; Having a desire is not a problem but to dwell on them or to act on them is a question,am i correct in this assumtion ? When i was a child i liked baloons very muchfor their colors sizes and feel.I cried for a long time when it broke. Now that i have grown up', i still enjoy baloons, but i may not go and buy them.I still enjoy . them. So,is it true that as i grew (mentally and emotionly ) i see the baloon as it is enjoy it but do not strive to posses it.can the same attitude develop for all the worldly plesures? i .e.all desires will be treated like hte baloon desire?Must i have a net to isolate myself from all desires?Or strive to grow spiritualy so the desires will auttomaticaly drop their hold on me.If desire is a privilage why must not i enjoy my privilage? hoping to here from you. Guest guest
Hari Om Suresh: I didn't say that mosquitos are bad and they are part of the nature. The mosquito eating animals and insects do need them. Mosquitos bite for their survival. What we need to do is just to free ourself from mosquito bites. Just like the net can prevent us from mosquito bites, we can avoid the ill effects of desires through spiritual maturity. There is nothing wrong with having desires but we should be aware about their biting habits! The example that you quoted is quite relevant. Some spiritual growth happens as we grow from childhood to adulthood. For several others, we have to cultivate spiritual habits (mosquito nets) to prevent desires to have an effect on us. Your example did confirm that it is just possible. This is the reason that I said that we can't eradicate the desires but only can eradicate the ill effects of desires through spiritual sadhana. regards, Ram Chandran Note: My desire to post is my privilege and I should be prepared to accept the consquences. If I develop an attitude to accept the criticism of my short-comings (due to my ignorance)I am ok; On the otherhand if I maintain the attitude "I know everything" then suffer because I am bitten by my desire to write! -- SLimaye Thu, 9 Dec 1999 15:23:58 EST >Are all desires bad like the mosquitos? Guest guest
Sri Devendra Vyas Orlando 19-12-99 Blessed Self, Om! Om! Om! Salutations! Your query whether all desires are bad. When you desired the balloons as a child, they were necessary for increasing your joy. And the necessity made you weep when they burst. Now that you have transcended the desire for balloons, you enjoy them without shedding tears. So whenever there is a desire, it means, that you need it for the increasing of your happiness. Many heart burns will follow when the desired object fails. When all the desires are transcended, you can enjoy the worldly objects with pure joy and without a single heart burn.
