I know someone called Suresh who visited Swami Chinmayananda's (has left

body) talks in Malaysia some time ago, on Bhagavad Gita. Dr. Suresh asked

the swamiji, "How long will it take me to finish tha Gita?". The swamiji

answered, "Suresh, you must not finish the Gita, the Gita must finish

you!"

============

Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha said during his recent talks the Bhagavad Gita,

is a gospel of administration by an administrator to an administrator. It

is a gospel of action, according to the swamiji, who said that preaches

among many, Yoga of Action and fulfillment of Dharma. However, in modern

day, sanyasans or renunciates (incl. swamijis) are the commentors of the

Gita and not people living their lives in the world, (who should be able

to practice Yoga of Action to its fullest).

============

Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba have said before that the first word of the

first verse of the Bhagavad Gita is DHARMA and the last word of the last

verse of the Gita is MAMA or 'my' in this context. Therefore, the message

of the Gita is 'mama dharma' or 'my dharma' or 'my duty'.

============

Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa has said: "All that can be learned by going

through the whole Gita can be well accomplished by repeating "Gita",

"Gita" --Gita-gi-ta-gita, ten times, it virtually becomes "Ta-gi", "Ta-gi"

--a modification of "Tyagi", "Tyagi", which means one who has given up the

world both outwardly and from the mind."

============

According to Swami Vivekananda, one gets the merit of reading the entire

Gita by reading this one verse in which lies the Whole Message of the

Gita:-

The Supreme Lord said: "How has the dejection come to you at this

juncture? This is not fit for an Aryan (or the people of noble mind and

deeds). It is disgraceful, and it does not lead one to heaven, O Arjuna.

Do not become a coward, O Arjuna, because it does not befit you. Shake off

this weakness of your heart and get up (for the battle), O Arjuna." (2.02

- 03) (Please get a better translation)

namaste,

" paartha naiveha naamutra vinaashastasya vidyate .

ne hi kalyaaNakR^itkashchiddurgati.n taata gachchhati .."

giitaa 6:40

Oh Partha! for such a one there is destruction neither in this world nor in

the hereafter. No one doing good deeds ever reaps a bad destiny.

" adhyeshhyate cha ya ima.n dharmya.n sa.nvaadamaavayoH .

j~naanayaj~nena tenaahamishhTaH syaamiti me matiH .."

giitaa 18:70

One who studies this divine dialogue of ours would be deemed to have

worshipped Me with the sacrificial rite of knowledge; this is My opinion.

" nehaabhikramanaasho.asti pratyavaayo na vidyate.

svalpamapyasya dharmasya traayate mahato bhayaat.h .. "

giitaa 2:40

These actions (of KarmaYoga) never go to waste, nor end with adverse

results. Even a minuscule practice of it protects one from the greatest of

fears (eg birth & death).

" tasmaattvamuttishhTha yasho labhasva...."

Therefore do thou arise and be victorious.!

Regards,

Sunder

Dear Ruben-ji,

Thank you for sharing. Someone said to Swamy Chinmayananda: "Swamiji, I

have been through Gita *many* times, but no change..." Swamy Chinmayanada

immediately replied "NOW, LET GITA GO THROUGH YOU AT LEAST ONCE!"

Regards,

Madhava
