Guest guest
I have recently invited Sri Vidyasankar Sunderasan, Sri Anand Hudli and Sri Ravisankar Mayavaram (owner of Advaita List) to join Advaitin and participate in Gita Satsang. They have joined the list and they will participate in the Gita Satsang. They are well versed in Sanskrit and are quite knowledgeable in Vedic Scriptures. Those who were (are) members of Advaita List know their scholarly postings in Advaita List (URL Site Address: http://lists.advaita-vedanta.org/archives/advaita-l.html). The welcome the trio and request their active participation in the Satsang with comments, questions and answers. Sri Madhavaji has gone to India for few weeks and let us focus our attention to the introduction and early preparation before the Satsang. We already had several scholarly postings from Madhavaji, Sunderji and Gummuluruji. I request others to post any messages that they have heard or read from saints, sages and books. I plan to post messages from Gita by Gandhiji in his own words this week. Next week, I plan to post Gita Dhyana Sloka with transliteration and commentary. Traditionally, Gita Satsang always starts with the Dhyana Sloka and Madhavaji is very particular about following the traditions. I also plan to post additional introductory messages from Gita practioners so that we get all the inspirations and motivations necessary for a meaningful Satsang. Bhagawad Gita (the Song of the Lord) is a quintessential part of human life. Though Gita is a Hindu Scripture, its messages are universal and are valid beyond time. It is not a book in the normal sense of the term, but, a series of verses woven together, and tells how, to conduct one's life. There is no known or stated rules, laws, or religious procedures, just an explanation of how to lead a pious good life. Gita starts with the war of Mahabharat whose protagonists are Good and Evil, as embodied in the clans of the Pandavas (Good) and the Kauravas (the Evil), who are cousins related by blood ties; just like good and evil flourish side by side. During the Mahabharat War, one of the Pandavas' Arjuna develops self-doubt about fighting his own brothers, teachers, elders, and sages. And, Lord Krishna who chose to be his charioteer expounds the truth about human birth, death, soul, one's duty to society, family and country, and how one's 'Karma' presages all that happens and cannot be ch Note: Madhavaji has left for India to take care of his Godmother, Swamini Saradapriyananda who has been admitted to Hospital. He will start posting the Gita Verses after two weeks. Actually, next weeks are needed for all of us get mentally ready for the Satsang. The list will focus its direction towards mind purification so that we can start our discussions in the most congenial atmoshpere.
