Namastey !

I have been following the emails on this list with much avid interest. I

have been quite selfish with this list (as with most other things in my

life), and have not contributed anything. Mainly because of the sheer

magnitude of wisdom amongst the learned members on the list.

I came across this poem, written by "Theodore Tilten" titled "Even this

shall pass away", which speaks a lot about detachment. For the past few

months, i have been trying to follow this poem. It has done many good

things to my perception in general and i hope that is would be of interest

to some of you on the list. If you have already seen this poem, please

accept my apologies.

Shri Ram Chandran was very generous with a few words about me, which were

very much undeserved. I am just a volunteer for Shri Kanchi Kamakoti

Peetham, and try to do a couple of things with Their web site

During my recent visit to Kanchi, a fellow traveller pointed out that the

new year is celebrated as 8 days after the Birth of Christ, He was baptised

in a synagogue (as there were no churches yet). Hence, the celebration. It

was an interesting piece of information for me. I did not know the actual

significance. The person who explained that to me said that he knew it

because he is a Christian. He mentioned that to me as he finds it quite

ironic that a number of Hindus and "non Christians" in India celebrate the

new year without fully realising the significance of it :-) He mentioned it

in a very humorous tone...

I wish everyone on this list a very Happy and Prosperous New Year!

Best regards

Venkatesh
