Guest guest
namaste all let us consider the foll. pts: arjuna was a refined and proud man.,yet --he had to suffer/swallow many insults like the humiliation of draupadi, travelling incognito..having to dress up like a eunuch...etc..etc..... yudhistira had ample forbearance to withstand such insults---while bhima never took things lying down and believed in paying back in equal measure. the result was that yudhistira and bhima were clear in their minds and free from complexes but.. arjuna; by the time the war was declared- was a mass of complexes just waiting to explode. it is these very complexes that came to the fore in the chp.1 of the gita. some western sycologists have suggested adopting the bhima method and and "enjoy" and give in to every temptation and lust and thus be free of complexes.......it is needless to say that such an hedonistic approach only makes matters worse and leads us towards anarchy(thou i am not suggesting that bhima was a hedonist)....the yudhistira way is too much to expect from a mere mortal---so what is the way???? the way suggested by the vedanta is enjoyment coupled with the check of dharma---thus we may marry, enter into the world and it's temptations but always we have to bear in mind that each stage is an ashrama with it's associated austerity's(like thakur says cut the jackfruit after applying oil to hands).we have to have the triple dharma, artha, kama before we can the final release of moksa---but each must be attended with austerity which purifies our lives...else our lives become animal-like and bereft of any noble goal or quality.we have to combine the right/left of our brain and have a holistic approach towards our lives...this is the only way man can lead a fulfilling life....each stage has to be entered into as a "yagna"---i.e., must be done without any selfish attachment & in a spirit of sacrifice. thus vedanta comes across as a very scientific system for having a healthy society. (the thoughts in this note have been jelled from a variety of sources ,mainly: 1."gita tattva chintan" in hindi by late.sw.atmanandaji of rkm-raipur(the best commentary on the gita i have come across) 2.commentary on gita by sw.chidbhavananda of rkm. 3.a lecture i attended of sw.jitatmananda of rkm. the mistakes are mine.)rgds-dev ____ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
