Guest guest
Following on from my last post, a bit more of the thread occurred to me during meditation this morning (I know that's not what meditation is for but it is difficult to ignore when something seemingly insightful happens). The normal state of affairs is that consciousness illuminates and reflects off various ideas in the mind etc. (upadhis) as a result of its impurity - rajas predominating. As the level of sattva is increased, many of these ideas start to fall away; the mind becomes purer; more of consciousness is transmitted. Eventually only a few of the really persistent ideas remain, such as 'there are objects' or 'there are other persons'. Ultimately, if purification continues, these ideas too are eventually dissolved and there is no reflection at all. Consciousness is transmitted without any obstruction and it is seen that there is nothing and no one other than the Self. The Self is now seeing itSelf through the medium of the mind or, colloquially, the mind is seeing the Self. Is this it? Dennis
