Guest guest
Sri Madhavaji's mail on Mantras was very interesting. Sri Vashishta Ganapati Muni, the famous disciple of Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi was an expert at all types of Mantra sadhana. He had a very ripe disciple by name Daivaratha. Ganapati Muni initiated Daivaratha into various vedic mantras. Due to his earnestness in practise , Daivratha was easily able to go into Samadhi. In one such Samadhi, Vashishta Ganapati Muni notices that from the mouth of Daivaratha came a series of verses . Sri Ganapathi Muni recorded these verses for more than two days. He realized that his disciple had become a Mantra Drashta, that is a Seer of mantras. The mantras which came out of Daivaratha spontaneosly have been since published by Ganapati Muni under the title Chandodarshana. He says these Mantras belong to the Rig veda. This proves that the Srutis are revelations of sages during heights of spiritual ecstatsy and anyone entering to that realm will have their spiritual vision. It is also interesting to note that Sri Vashishta Ganpati Muni had the knowledge of Astra Mantras , that is the divine weapons we read of in places like the Mahabharatha. There is a story of His mantra shakthi. It seems he arrived once with His family to visit Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi in Virupaksha cave. Bhagavan had gone out. The attendant on duty apparently did not recognise Sri Ganapati Muni and told him that he cannot stay there with his family. Sri Ganapati Muni and his family were forced to sit in the hot sun . This humiliation made the Muni very angry. He however directed his anger in a beneficial manner. He uttered a Mantram which brought thick rain clouds in no time and there was a heavy downpour to alleviate his heat and thirst. It is also said that the lightning which accompanied the storm struck the "ratha" (Chariot) of the adjacent temple and reduced it to ashes. "ratha" can also mean Earth in sanskrit. Ganapti Muni composed a poem saying he relinquished his anger by burning up this Ratha instead. Source :- Vashishta Vaibhavam, The Glory of Vashishta Ganapati Muni.
