Guest guest
Greetings: The question what does it mean to be egoless is quite a challenge to the ego. When we identify the SELF (The Brahman) with the trinity of body, mind, and intellect, our ego emerges. Egoless refers to the "I am" the liberated state of the soul (liberated from the paradigm of body, mind and intellect. Let me try to illustrate with an example. The same gold can appear in different forms - necklace, bangle, earring, etc. Brahman, the gold takes the form of different human beings and appear as Ram, Shyam, David, etc. Just like the necklace, bangle and earring Ram, Shyam and David have distinct identities of names, forms and functions. Brahman represents the unique identity beneath surface of Ram, Shayam and David and that can be realized with the disappearance of distinct identity (Ego). In the case of gold, we can get the egoless state by melting the necklace, bangle and earring. Shanakara's Advaita claims that the individual souls can melt down their ego and can realize Brahman. Though in appearance and our subjective perceptions of our experiences, we may look different but fundamentally, we are the Brahman. We can call Brahman by any name we like, God, Abraham, Jesus, Allah, Buddha, Krishna, Shiva, Shakti, Father, Mother, Brother, Friend and even Foe. These names and forms indicate the level of ignorance (or wisdom) and the ultimate reality is beyond name and form. regards, Ram Chandran

Guest guest
Greetings Patrick: Your understanding of ego - "As I see it, being egoless is nothing more than `not taking one's "I" literally' (as the BG puts it somewhere) while continuing to use first person speech just like everybody else" is flawless! I enjoyed your previous posting ('Arjuna is not morally defective')and I am left with no option other than to agree with your compelling argument in favor of Arjuna! regards, Ram

The refrain is: "tadeko.avashishhTaH shivaH kevalo.aham.h ." Regards, s. >"Madhava K. Guest guest
When i was new to spirituality i was unable to understand how can Shree Krishna explain Bhagvad Gitaa to Arjuna without ego. Ram u explained it beautifully. But as i progressed further on the path i got the glimpse of Shree Krishna's egoless state of existence. Guest guest
Anurag is an assumed name, Madhava is an assumed name, John is an assumed name, Tom is an assumed name, Abraham is an assumed name... Behind all these names and forms there is an evident life force... THAT is Brahman and you are that. :-) One needs to keep constantly remembering his true self as Brahman. Lord Hanuman is the finest example for such continuous contemplation. When Sri Hanuman approaches Lord Rama for the first time, Rama questions him "who are you?". For that questions Hanuman replies "They call me as Hanuman", he did not say that "I am Hanuma" he said "They call me Hanuman". I am named as Madhava on the 16th day after my birth. But before they named me, what was my name! I am a nameless one, in order to identify me they gave a name... :-) > > anurag > [anurag] > Tuesday, February 29, 2000 4:44 AM > advaitin > Re: The Physics of Realization > > > <anurag > > > > How can we talk about "Abraham" when we don't know for sure > what Brahma is > > > On Mon, 28 Feb 2000, Madhava K Turumella wrote: > > > "Madhava K Turumella" <madhava > > > > God is Brahman > > God is Abraham > > Brahman is Abraham > > > > The question is how do you separate the above? :-) > > > > - > > Chuck Hillig <chillig > > <advaitin > > > Sunday, February 27, 2000 6:29 PM > > Re: The Physics of Realization > > > > > > > Chuck Hillig <chillig > > > > > > At 08:18 PM 02/27/2000 EST, you wrote: > > > >BOOKDET > > > > > > > > > >IS BRAHMAN GOD ? So, at the Dream level, you can say that the pain is "real." What's NOT real, however, is the "one" who thinks that he is experiencing it. The body feels the pain.....not "you." That would mean a duality is existing between "feeling body" and consciousness The body itself is insentient and its responses could be called the result of identifications - the vast majority can be removed. When this happens, not only is pain no longer felt but the physical reaction of the body, on for instance burning, will be absent. The analogy, that there is only the one spider, drawing a wire out of herself that starts infinitely thin, a wire made of a "substance" from which every appearance (even other spiders) seemingly can be made but yet is one and the same "substance" that eventually will be drawn into the one spider again. hope this helps Jan
