Guest guest
I hope our kind hearted Jay will not mind... I am taking liberty in forwarding this question to advaitins. This question is surfaced on the excellent Ramakrishna mailing list moderated by Jay. Yours, Madhava ==== Galina Neyman hindu 03 March 2000 07:33 Re: Bhagavad Gita Question To whom it may concern: I'm writing a paper for my class in University of California San Diego, and I need to come up with a valid question with relation to the historical context of the text of Bhagavad Gita. I wasn't sure what an appropriate question might be if I'm interested in describing what the nature of the conversation between Krishna and Arjuna says about the social system at the time. I'm still not clear about what time the text was written and by whom. I am also aware that this was a text made in reaction to Buddism. So are its principles of becoming detached from all material things in order to obtain Nirvana - releasing from the cycle of reincarnation- similar to those of Buddhism? I will appreciate your response and thank's for your time. Galina
