Guest guest
Srimat Swami Vivekananda's oratory skills are famous. However there are also many instances of his great inner spiritual power. Before he began his tour of India, he dissappeared into the Himalayas with a vow, "I will not come back till I can burst on society like a bomb and make it follow me like a dog !". Bhagavan Sri Ramakrishna had also predicted, "There will come a day when Naren will shake the world". At the Cossipore garden house, once Narendra started using his spiritual powers only to be rebuked by Sri Ramakrishna. When he was meditating under a tree outside the Cossipore house, he suddenly felt as though his body was surging with spiritual power. He asked young Kali( who later became Swami Abhedananda) to touch his knee. When the latter touched Narendra, he felt an electric shock go through him. Sri Ramakrishna from whom nothing could be hidden rebuked Narendra telling him ,"What! Spending your energy without accumulation ? You have destroyed the devotional temperent of Kali with all your vedantic ideals now... But it will become allright ". Swami Abhedananda took 4 or 5 years to get over this influx of energy from Narendra. On another occassion, Narendra fell down and hurt himself badly with the result he lost some blood. When this was reported to Sri Ramakrishna, he said ,"Thats good he lost some blood. Otherwise he would have created havoc in this world with his excessive energy". On Swami Vivekananda's travel throughout India , he came across a young Madras professor who kept arguing against him about spiritual experience. In reply Swamiji just touched "Kidi" the professor when a remarkable change occured in him. He lost all his agnostic ideas and became a devotee of God. During the course of one of His lectures in the U.S., Swami Vivekananda cut short his speech after 15 minutes and walked out of the podium. The organizers of the lecture thought that Swamiji must have been displeased with some thing and rushed to ask his forgiveness. However Swami Vivekananda clarified that he was not displeased with anyone, that he had cut short his speech because he felt that the minds of the people sitting before Him were like "putty" in his hands. "I could change their minds in anyway I felt like .... Who am I do so ?" He felt he had no write to change the future of someone else and thus cut short his speech. Atfter his return to India and after the establishment of Belur math, many people came to him for Diksha (initiation into a mantra). Swamiji used to readilly give it. It was seen that some of these men who took Diksha did not change their old sinful ways but continued an immoral life. So some of the brother monks of Swamiji took Him to task telling him that He should not give Diksha to all and sundry without examining the past of the person. Swamiji fired back, "You think I dont know the past of these people. I not only know everything about their present lives , I also know all their past lives." Some brahmacharins and monks of the Ramakrishna math were going from the Belur math to the nearby temple for worship. Swamiji who was till then sitting under a nearby tree , on seeing this rose up , " Where shall you go to see Brahman ? Here ! Here is Brahman visible to you as fruit in one's palm !". The writer of this episode says, when Swamiji uttered the words, "Here ! Here is Brahman.." everyone present were transported into another realm as it were and stood rooted in their spot for 10 to 15 minutes. Afterwhich Swamiji asked everyone to continue their work. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A FREE web-based e-mail service brought to you by the PC World Technology Network.
