Dear jb,

I find your question most interesting. I think its answer may be

heard in the whisper of the breeze. Or the music of the trees. Life

is living waters. It is a mystery. And magic. Magic that gushes out

from the Heart into the luxuriant fields of Earth.

How does one catch hold of Life? All mental contortions are the

result of trying to climb into the skies using one's head as the

foothold. But there are no footholds here. One has to learn to walk

on the abyss. One has to learn to support the abyss and open one's

heart to the supernal music of Divine Madness. There are no bridges

to Life. There are no bridges to Here.

Only the heart knows how to knock on the doors of the mystical. But

for that, Ratio must merge with Eros.

Chittaranjan

Namaste, all members and Sri Jb,

Mr. JB wrote in his mail

<<<But concerning actual living... what is the bridge, from all the mental

contortions, to Life?

Anyone here found this out?>>

It so happens that I was thinking of raising this point one of these days and I

am glad Mr. Jb has raised it.

Swamiji asked his students “What is the purpose of this life?”

Answers poured in such as, for getting happiness, to enjoy, to get liberated, to

settle down the family, to be famous, to amass wealth, etc. etc.

Swamiji said, “nobody has given the correct answer. The purpose of life is ‘for

living’, what else could that be?”

This did not occur to anybody, but that is the difference between a Guru and

SishyaS.

Swamiji continued, “okay life is to live, but ‘how to live’, and it is here the

study of Advaita up”.

So far as I understand, Advaita addresseS the Emotional Problem of human beings,

(as in the case of Arjuna) and study of Advaita Vedanta helps a person to be

Emotionally Mature, slowly but definitely. Once the self knowledge starts

reflecting in one’s life, he will not be disturbed, at least to some extent, by

the Shadurmies, the six enemies, i.e. Kama, Krodha, Moha, Lobha, Mada and

Matsarya i.e. greed, anger, confusion, arrogance, jealousy, meanness, etc.,

which cause emotional problems to us.

Sooner or later, but definitely “contentment” takes place in the person, as

Advaita accepts everything in its fold, and this makes a very big difference to

living, i.e. living with peace. There is no “preaching” involved but only

“teaching” i.e. unfoldment of self-knowledge, and self-knowledge once takes

place (rather once ignorance of self is removed) that will take care of all

emotional problems, provided the self-knowledge reflects in one’s day today

life.

I hope our learned members can kindly help further on this point.

Warm regards and Hari Om

Namaste:

The sages of the Upanishads have provides the following elgant answer:

"Life is a bridge, enjoy while crossing, don't build any castles!"

Another way of saying is, "Life is what it is, It is not what you

want it to be!"

It seems that we try hard to build 'vasanas' and then try to get rid

of them to become liberated.

warmest regards,

Ram Chandran
