Guest guest
I hope the list doesn't mind if I make a suggestion: (Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong in saying any of the below. Also your suggestions/comments are most welcome Thank you.) While reading the mail, if at all you get agitated then close your eyes, cool down a bit and read the mail again. Do this until you are completely at peace. You should be able to come down and have peace at heart, even if somebody is rudely flaming you... Most of the flames happen because of misunderstanding. Misunderstanding happens because of lack of perception --- perception towards the subject (of the mail) and perception of ones own self. Never presume that the world is trying to be hostile on you. Always presume that world is in peace with you. Nobody wants to quarrel or demean anybody! Try to read your mail with equipoise state. Have no hatred in your heart; Have no affection either. Because they both cause mis-interpretation. Please do not read in between lines. Say: a) You received an e-mail. The subject did hurt your sentiments, you got angry. Close your eyes and look in to your heart. Question yourself: "Is my heart is at peace or is it agitated?" IF your heart is agitated THEN go to point (b) OTHERWISE skip to Point © b) Close your eyes, think of the same subject, imagine yourself in the author's shoes... Think how you would have written if you were given a chance to write the same subject. By this time, your agitation will come down. Your agitating mind must have calmed down by this time, your heart should feel peace. Do this until you are completely calm. c) At this point you can be said to be at detached state. d) NOW, attempt to write an answer to the mail that agitated you. Answer you must (that is dharma), but you should not have anger in your heart. Once you mix your emotions with your actions, the action becomes tainted; as a result of which you will encounter more problems. There is nothing dangerous in this world than once own Rajoguna, as told by BhagawadGita. Get detached and act.. ACT YOU MUST. Mind you, detached action yields great results. HERE IS A STORY: Saint Tulsidas was writing RamcharitManas. In the episode of "The beauty of Lanka", Tulsidas started writing on Lanka thus: "Lanka has got beautiful white buildings. The pathways are white. The dazzling white is shining on the faces of the dwellers, making them appear as if they are all at pure satvic state..." Lod Hanuma came to visit Tulsidas. Hanuma wanted to find out how the writing of Ramcharitmanas is going on. Tulsidas was very happy to see Lord Hanuma, and started explaining the Lanka episode which he is currently writing. After listening to the explanation of Lanka, Hanuma got very upset. He told Tulsidas that he saw Lanka with his own eyes... He can vouch that Lanka is full of Red buildings. It is pure Red. Tulsidas insisted that Lanka is white and Hanuma insisted that Lanka is Red. Their argument did not reach any end. Finally they wanted to ask Lord Rama himself. So they both prayed for Lord Rama and he personified in front of them. Lord Hanuma explained to Rama that Tulsidas is completely mistaken, he requested Rama to tell Tulsidas on what the reality is... For Hanuma's wonder, Rama said that Lanka's buildings are white. Hanuma was very upset. Then Lord Rama explained to Hanuma thus: "Hanuma, when you visited Lanka for the fist time, you were very angry, the anger has completely controlled your mind, hence you perceived the white buildings as Red. But the next time when we visited the Lanka was war torn, the blood of the Daemons was sprinkled all over the walls making them look Red. Hence, initially the Lanka buildings were white, and Tulsidas is right in writing that Lanka buildings are white..." Hanuma realized his mistake and hugged Tulsidas. Writing of Ramcharitmanas continued... I remain yours, Madhava
