cit, the magical mirror

namaste. It is nice to be back on the List again.

 

The soul is eternal. The soul is the reflection of the Atman in

the magical mirror of the antahkaraNa, the internal sense organ.

Specifically, this reflection takes place in the subtlest part of

the antahkaraNa, the cit. If this mirror (the cit) is pure, the

soul will be an accurate and true reflection of the Atman.

 

In addition to providing reflection, this mirror has magical, and

some unwanted properties. For example, it provides a reflection which

seems to be doing actions and enjoying the fruits of the so-called

actions, and further, seems to be the originator of the thought that

the reflection is the doer. We have seen similar mirrors with different

curvatures in various amusement parks. But when we recognize that the

peculiar shapes that we see of us in these mirrors are only a reflection

in the amusement park magical-mirror-show and are bacause of the curvature

of the mirror, we will not be perturbed by these weird images.

 

Similarly, when we recognize the various thoughts (good or bad) that

go through us are only a reflection in that magical mirror, the cit,

and are a property of the mirror, we do not have to be perturbed and

we can only laugh and move on (even the movement we think we do is

only a property that can be attributed to the reflection by the magical

mirror). All the while, of course, the original prototype (of which the

soul is a reflection) remains motionless, actionless and shapeless.
