Beautiful news Jay. You are doing an excellent work. There will always be

resistance from local community and even Swami Vivekananda faced this when

he started preaching. I am sure His blessings will always be there for

your self-less work.

>News from Vivekananda Centre London:

>

>This week we have been very busy with examinations on Hinduism.

>We had about 150 candidates sitting for various exams set by University of

>London. GCSE exams are meant for 16 year olds. A/S level exams are

>meant for the 17 year olds. We are the single most active body

>involved in this work. All our courses are non-commercial and

>non-sectarian.

>

>We have just finished with both these examinations.

>These exams generate a great deal of interest and excitement

>in the local Hindu circles. We train lots of candidates from many

>sectarian bodies and temple authorities from all around the country.

>This year we had 7 GCSE and 2 A/S level classes.

>The demand for this work is increasing all the time.

>

>We are now planning a set of lectures on foundation

>of Hinduism at Imperial college. This is a very important venue as

>this college is considered to be the best science college in the country.

>We hope to get a good response from the London university students.

>

>Our main aim is not this - it is really to take the teachings

>of Vedanta into the host community.

>We face a lot of resistance. Since the time of Vivekananda

>many 'charlatan gurus' have turned up in the West and have

>done a great deal of damage. Hinduism does not have a good image.

>It will need a lot of work to tidy up this situation.

Greetings Jay,

Since it is non-commercial, can I ask what is the syllabus contents of

the exams meant for 16 and 17 year olds? Also, what is the depth?

FYI here in Malaysia, there is only Islamic and Bible studies for exams

especially the former is given more importance.
