I welcome shri Dave to the advaitin list. I have been following his

recent postings on advaita-l with great interest. I would hope he

would post his R^gveda articles in advaitin as well for benefit

of all members.

I would appreciate if he can

(i) send me by personal email gmurthy his interpretation of

kena u.

(ii)send me by personal email his compilations of devI-sUktAs from

the vedas

Has he considered joining the list maintained by shri Ravi?

Finally, can he publish a short summary of his 'New approach to

interpretation of the vedas' on the advaitin for the benefit of all.

Again, my enthusiastic welcome to shri Dave to the advaitin and

I hope to be able to learn from him.

Greetings Advaitins:

It is my pleasure to welcome and introduce Sri Himanshu Bhalachandra Dave, a new

member to this list. Sri Himanshu has been contributing interesting articles to

the Advaita List for quite some time. I requested him to join the advaitin list

and contribute to benefit the members of this list. He is a Sanskrit scholar

and very well versed in our scriptures and Advaita philosophy of Shankaracharya.

He will be contributing a series of articles from Rig Veda and his tribute to

Vedavyasa is quite fitting during the Guru Poornima Week. As you all aware,

Guru Poornima is to remember the services of Veda Vyasa in the establishment of

Vedic Traditions and Vedic Religion. Please extend your warm welcome to Sri

Himanshu.

A Self Introduction by Himanshu Bhalchandra Dave

=================================================

Caste : Vadanagara Nagar Brahmin, RigVedic Shankhayani shakha.

Age : 62 years

Education : B.E.(Electronics), M.Tech, visited Japan for one year.

Experience : 38 years teaching and research experience in IIT/Kharagpur,

L.D.College of Engineering and now at DDIT, Nadiad.

Position : Professor and Head of Deptt, Computer Engg.

I have been studying Upanishads for last 35 years or so. Also studied Brahma

Sutra, Panchadasi, MahaBharata, Shrimad Bhagavat. For last 5 years have been

studying RiVeda, Nirukta. I have develop myown (not really, I claim it was the

original interpretation by our Rishis) interpretation of RigVeda after studying

some 3000 richas out of 10000 odd richas in RigVeda. I am still continuing that

work. I feel what I have observed is extremely important and so I am trying to

tell other who are ready to listen.

I read the following two papers at 39th All India Oriental Conference at Baroda,

Oct 1998 :

1. "A New Approach to Interpretation of Vedas" (very well received)

2. "Computer Code for Sanskrit Sound Elements" (understood by some)

I am a meditator of long standing. I also teach meditation by our ancient Vedic

method to any one interested (without any return, cash or kind).

I have also prepared commentaries on Kenopanishad and Kaushitaki Upanishad and

printed them (available for asking) Recently, during last Navaratri I prepared a

note on "Vedic DeviSuktas"

with my explanations from Advaita view point. I give out this to any one

interested.

Long time back I started my study of Upanishads with Mandukya Upanishad (may be

in 1965) but I could not "understand" much. I kept on my efforts, with other

Upanishads. In 1978 I re-learned meditation (which was taught to me by my father

way back in 1952), and had several

"experiences", which are difficult to describe or explain. After that Mandukya

with its Karika was very clear to me. Everything fitted like a jig-saw puzzle!

What an experience it was!

I think there is not much to discuss once you are "convinced", but if any

question or doubt is there I will be glad to discuss. I would like to be in

company of people who understand these things, rather then so called

Indologists! (no offence meant to any one).

If there is any further details needed, of course, I am open book.

Dear Prof. Dave,

That is a very interesting account of you forwarded by Sri Ramchandran. We

humbly welcome you to the list. And I would request you to share your paper

"A new approach to interpretation of vedas" with us. I am sure most of us

would benefit in reading your paper. Thank you.

Yours,

Madhava

Greetings to Sri Himanshu,

Welcome! Glad you are here, and looking forward to informative postings on

the Rig Veda. Two things in your introduction struck me -- that when you

teach it is for free. In my learning experience (and in my small teaching

activities as well), this has been the time-honored way to present advaita.

As they say at the Arsha Vidya Gurukulam, "If one had to pay what these

teachings are truly worth, then who could afford them?" The other thing

that struck me about your post was your resonance with the Mandukya

Upanishad. This is also my favorite Upanishad, and happens to be the first

one I read as well!

Look forward to hearing from you.

Om!

hariH OM! Sri Himanshu-

nice meeting you.

i'm particularly interested in interpretations of the

rig veda's documentation re the cyclical pralaya state

of brahman, just prior to Its re-emergent projection

into manifestation (maya of lila).

if you would be so inclined to post your and/or any

other interpretation of such, it would be very much

appreciated!

I have joined the list and already posted the first article. Thank you for your

kind words.

I shall certainly will. I hope your account will allow a file of about 100K or

so as attachment.

The file is a PostScript file directly printable on a PS printer or through an

appropriate software

like ghostscript available on UNIXes and LINUX. Generally files are compressed

to *.gz

Same as above.

Yes, I am a member, but not so active. I shall try to be more active on that

list also. Thanks for the suggestion.

Sure. I have to convert from the LaTex document form to text form. The problem

is with

devanagari text, which takes some time. I shall try to put it up earliest. In

fact, some of the ideas in that paper are being included in the current series

of posting I am sending out.

Thank you for your kind welcome. I shall be happy to share whatever I have. In a

way I belong to the old tradition, where patents were unknown!

Thank you!

When Hanuman asked Shri Rama which Upanishad should be studied for Knowledge,

Shri Rama replied "Read and understand Mandukya Upanishad. Only if you do not

understand it, read others."

Best wishes,

Yes, I can do that, but can you give me some time? I have commited myself to

the series of postings "RigVeda and the Indian Systems of Approach to the One"

This series should take about 10 to 15 days to complete from now.

The topic you have suggested is very interesting, please be patient.
