Guest guest
Once i was reading a lecture given by Pujya Gurudev and there he mentioned that till now 24 incarnations of Lord have taken place. For sure Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa was one. But still the incarnations of Lord as Shree Rama ans Shree Krishna stand quite distinctly. I mean to say may be an incarnation of the magnitude of Shree Ram and Shree Krishna is required again. Once Pujya Gurudev said things have degraded to such a level that almost 50 Shree Krishna would be required to set the things right. love, Anurag On Sun, 30 Jul 2000 malone wrote: > Ruben wrote: "Four contemporary spiritual personages who have been assigned > the > title "Bhagavan" by their devotees or disciples: Sri Ramakrishna, Sri Ramana > Maharshi, Osho (Sri Rajneesh) and Sri Sathya Sai Baba.Other persons thought > of to be an Avatar by their devotees: Meher Baba and Sri Shirdi Sai Baba." > > Krishnamurti was also heralded as the "World Teacher" and the "Vehicle > chosen by the Master" by his theosophist followers. > > > - > "Ruben" <rubenn > <advaitin > > Sunday, July 30, 2000 8:42 PM > Re: Sri Krishna, Buddha > > > > Lllia wrote: > > > Was not it Sri Ramakrishna? ;-) > > > > Four contemporary spiritual personages who have been assigned the > > title "Bhagavan" by their devotees or disciples: > > > > Sri Ramakrishna, Sri Ramana Maharshi, Osho (Sri Rajneesh) and Sri > > Sathya Sai Baba. > > > > Other persons thought of to be an Avatar by their devotees: Meher > > Baba and Sri Shirdi Sai Baba. > > > > > > > > -- > > Warmest regards, > > Ruben > > rubenn
Guest guest
Namaste, The best definition of avatara I have read is that by R.D.Ranade[The Bhagavad-Gita as a Philosophy of God-Realisation, p. 156, 3rd ed. 1982; Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan]: "...We give to the word 'ava' the meaning which is its due, but at the same time give it a mystical interpretation. Avatara is the descent of God's form before the spiritual vision of the aspirant. Yaska has said in his definition of the word Rsi in his Nirukta: tat brahma svayaMbhu etaan R^ishhiin tapasyamaanaanabhyaanarshhat tadR^ishhiiNaa.n R^ishhitvam.h . A R^ishhi is one who sees the form of God descending before his very eyes.
