Yours in the service of Gurudev,

Pannir

GOD'S TESTS: A Sadhu from Rishikesh called on the Master and narrated to

him at length a dispute between the Mahant of an Ashram and a rich

Bhakta, who had also built an Ashram near the former's. The quarrel

arose over a small piece of land. The attitude of the Bhakta clearly

proved his jealousy at the Mahant's popularity among the devotees.

"Money, fame and lust are all great tests," said the Master. "A

Sannyasin or a householder devotee might imagine himself great and

saintly, but when these tests come he succumbs to them like a lamb at

the hands of a leopard. Saintliness consists in constant vigilance and

crossing over the hurdles of money, fame and lust when they are set up

by Maya.

"Great South Indian saints were put through strange and severe tests.

Maya tried to lead a saint astray. On whatever object he placed his

foot, it would be transformed into a diamond. Apsara girls were sent to

attend on him. But the saint was unmoved. Only then could he attain the

Divine."

"Yoga is not a system of religious thinking, it is a science of living

in a manner that shall make you perfect in every way. Perfection is the

watchword of Yoga, it is neither an 'ism', nor a religion, a cult, a

creed, nor a faith,--nothing of the type. It has no difference of caste,

creed or colour, East, West, North, South, etc. It is perfectly

scientific and impersonal as the law of gravitation, as the laws that

operate in mathematics or logic." - Swami Krishnananda
