Glory of a devotee of the Lord

CHENNAI, AUG. 18. Man becomes immortal by realising God and it is

the name of the Lord's devotees which has earned lasting fame in

the world.(deleted)

Purandaradasa who has composed over four lakh

songs (Suladis), in one of his popular Kirtanas draws attention

to the significance of human birth which must not be frittered

away in material pursuits but must be utilised to realise God.

Adi Sankara in his hymn Bhaja Govindam also says that man caught

in the vicious cycle of transmigration must aspire for liberation

from it by singing the glory of God with devotion. (deletedz)

Rama is

both a mantra and a name of God. Hence it can be chanted by

anyone and it has the power to liberate the person from bondage.

(some parts are deleted) It is

said that it is enough to chant the name Rama once to be absolved

of a sin, but the bliss of chanting His name is insatiable that

saints like Tyagaraja have repeated it crores of times during

their lifetime. Hanuman was blessed to live eternally in the

world as he desired to listen to the glory of Rama and His name.

Glory of a devotee of the Lord

CHENNAI, AUG. 18. Man becomes immortal by realising God and it is

the name of the Lord's devotees which has earned lasting fame in

the world. Their legacy in the form of compositions in praise of

God, besides giving an insight into their spiritual experience,

guides the spiritual aspirant to realise the goal of liberation

from rebirths.

According to

Manu there are seven crore ``mantras'' in praise of the Supreme

Being and it is not humanly possible to find out for oneself the

glory of each mantra and the divine name incorporated in it.

Saints have shown us the way out of this dilemma by prescribing

methods that can be easily followed by humanity.

It has been conclusively attested by no less than Lord Siva

Himself that Rama mantra is the best and most suitable to chant

for one and all. The Skanda Purana states that Lord Siva dilated

on the glory of this mantra to His consort Parvati at Kasi and

this is confirmed in the hymn Vishnu Sahasranama also. Rama is

both a mantra and a name of God. Hence it can be chanted by

anyone and it has the power to liberate the person from bondage.

In his Harikatha, Sri S. Janakiraman said that Hanuman who

revelled in Rama mantra was a manifestation of Lord Siva. It is

said that it is enough to chant the name Rama once to be absolved

of a sin, but the bliss of chanting His name is insatiable that

saints like Tyagaraja have repeated it crores of times during

their lifetime. Hanuman was blessed to live eternally in the

world as he desired to listen to the glory of Rama and His name.

An instance when the Lord Himself declared that His devotee's

word of promise was more important to Him than His own was proved

in the case of Hanuman. During Rama's rule of Ayodhya there lived

a king named Shakunta in Kuntala who performed a sacrifice when

the sage, Viswamitra, visited him. He was offended by an incident

that happened there and left in a huff threatening to finish him

off by seeking Rama's help. Narada advised the king to seek the

help of Anjana's son (Hanuman) in the matter with the certain

knowledge that his devotion to Rama would enable him to protect

the king even if Rama had promised help to Viswamitra.
