Song of the ever free (Avadhuta Gita)

Chapter 5 verse 13

Brahman is free from emotion and excitement,

desire and desirelessness.

Indeed, this highest Consciousness

is identical with liberation.

Being the Selfsame Brahman,

O mind, why do you weep?

Commentary:-

This thirst for liberation is inbuilt in all

that is the field of operation of our real Self.

Jay, your comments here appear to have little to do

with the text and seem to be more a matter of your own

ideation.

The Self has no operation whatsoever. If there is a

thirst for liberation, it resides at the level of ego/mind.

That is, the one who "thirsts" can never be liberated.

While we can all agree that a thrist for liberation is a

good thing for the most part, it can also be just as much

a hindrance as a blessing. If one thirsts for something,

then they are in a state where they don't believe they have

it. We all have the Self right now as the very essence of

our being. If we believe we don't have the essence of our

being, how can we ever hope to get it? Said a different way,

how can we get something we already are?

Thrist for liberation encourages disciplined sadhana, but

once this tapas takes effect, we renounce even the desire for

liberation. Then our lives become available to the manifestation

of realization, as it has ceased to be something we are looking

for.
