Guest guest
Response to the Feed Back First I want to thank all those who took time to respond to the questioner. The summary of the responses that I received from three different lists - advaitin, advaita-L and ChinmayaSatsangh - is as follows: 1. There are many who are following the notes; few are saving due to time constraints, to study later. One person wondered about the importance of the Suutra-s in relation aatma vichaara. The rest wants the postings to continue, even if they are unable to complete the studies now. 2. In a way it is pleasing to note that besides one or two frequent discussers, there are other silent readers who are interested in the notes and would like them to continue. For many it is the first time study. They are overwhelmed by the contents and want more time to digest. 3. Most of the respondees are Indians. All of them want Sanskrit at the current pace to continue. As for I could tell there are only two westerners who are interested, of which one wants the sanskrit and other feels it is obstructing the flow of thoughts. There was not a single response, either from Indian or westerner that indicated that because of Sanskrit one is unable to study the notes. Based on the Feed back, I will continue the current format. I am sure Shree Dennis Waite, who is following the notes very closely and expressed strong reservation about the use of Sanskrit terms, will be able to overcome his reservation. He volunteered to come up with sanskrit-free text, based on the notes, if he finds time. I consider his perspective is quite important if his version creates interest for Western readers. 4. Frequency and length of the posting: Many suggested to reduce the length and/or reduce the frequency - one in two weeks to cope up with the notes. There are two problems that I face here. I would like to follow Anand's suggestion. It is difficult to break the flow of thoughts or logic. Too long a gap will also break the chain of thinking. I am also not so sure that those who are postponing the reading of the notes for later study will be able to study them if it is ones in two weeks. My guess is their current time constrained priorities are different and it will remain the same even if the notes are biweekly. 'That tomorrow' is more difficult to come, once it is postponed. I do agree that lengthy notes are difficult to study with the screen. I suggest everyone to copy into a file and print it out and then study - that week's portion that week itself. I will let the length to be dictated by the logical brake points. If one finds it is lengthy, one can brake the copied notes into two or many and study piece by piece. It is better if you break the notes to your convenience than I do from my end. About the frequency - if there is no discussion on the topic, I plan to continue the weekly posts so that topic of the notes is still in the minds of the reader. If there are discussions on a given post, the next posting will be postponed after the discussion related to that topic is over. Longer breaks can be given between the Suutra-s or adhikaraNa-s so that others who are postponing the study can catch up. I will be flexible based on the supply and demand. About the Logic - Being a nyaaya prasthaana, logic is the essence of Brahmasuutra. I would like to follow the strict methodology and format that is followed by Swami Paramaatmaanandaji. It is important to make sure that the logic is clearly understood and also strict adherence to the format of the teaching is followed. As the reader will find, as we go from Suutra to Suutra, strict adherence to the format and methodology is very important in order to follow various puurvapaksha-s and siddhanta-s. This is important on the long run, as we are studying the Suutra-s remotely through the Internet without any direct personal contact. Some Chinmaya members requested once in a way a personal contact to discuss freely. Since the readers are scattered all over it may be difficult to have such meetings regularly. One can meet once in two or three months for a full day and those who are interested can organize such meeting. I met Shree Swami Paramaarthanandaji and kept him informed about the activities. He welcomed the approach and mentioned that someone is trying to transcribe the tapes. I got hold of his tapes and hopefully our study will be much smoother. Discussions are back bone of the study and feel free to discuss which helps everyone. I am thankful to Shree Sunder and Shree Dennis for providing strong friendly bond and company to keep me honest and help me in this study. I continue to seek their help in this endeavor. Thanks to Vidya and Anand and request them to jump in whereever further clarification and different perspective would help to understand the bhaashhya better. Let us pray to the almighty for the continuation of the study to a successful completion. My praNaams to everyone. Hari Om!
