Guest guest
AUM: ‘AUM' symbolically represents that Everything is Brahman. The spelling AUM emphasizes eternal sounds which make up the word.. 'A' is the primary sound manifested when we opens our mouth to speak. ‘M' represents the sound of the vocal movement to close the lips. The sound of ‘U' represents everything word represent. The three sounds constitute symbolically the entire universe of words. The manifestation of the sound ‘AUM' is symbolically represents the manifestation of Nirguna Brahman to Saguna Brahman. A represents creation, U symbolizes preservation and M projects the end of a cycle. This trinity of letters AUM corresponds to the Hindu Trinity of Gods - Brahma (creation), Vishnu (Protection) and Shiva (destruction of Maya). According to the Upanishad this word stands for the entire universe permeated by Brahman and therefore AUM represents the Brahman. AUM represents therefore both the Brahman with attributes and the Brahman without attributes. By repeating it at the beginning and at the conclusion of everything we affirm that as part of the universe we emanate from Brahman and finally dissolve into Brahman. Finally, Spiritual seekers greet one another with AUM. For advaitins, the word AUM represents: A (all)U(including you)M(me). On the lighter side: Everything is Brahman = Ever:Y thing is Brahamn? regards, Ram Chandran

Guest guest
Namaste, The sound of AUM is also known as 'anaahata', that is 'unstruck'; there are no two things striking one another that are required to produce a sound in the mundane world. It is also the 'aham' that shines in the heart:[vide Ramana Maharshi- hR^idayakuharamadhye kevalaM brahmamaatraM hyahamahamiti saakshaadaatmaruupeNa bhaati . hR^idi visha manasaa sva.n chinvataa majjataa vaa pavanachalanarodhaadaatmanishhTho bhava tvam.h .. Inside the cave of the Heart the Pure and Infinite Being shines as the Self, the limitless I. Enter thou the Heart, diving by the Quest of the Self or by holding the breath and thus be one with the Self. Ramana Gita, Ch 2.] This is a 'synesthetic' phenomenon mystics describe [eg hearing with the eyes, seeing with the ears, etc.] Regards, s. advaitin , Ram Chandran <ramvchandran> wrote: > AUM: > > `AUM' symbolically represents that Everything is > Brahman. Guest guest
Om, On Arunachala Hill, the Virupaksha Guha (cave) is supposed to be of the shape of the "Om" letter. In "Day by Day with Bhagavan" Devaraja Mudaliar says that it is possible to hear the Anahata Dwani (Om sound) if one meditates in the Virupaksha cave. Devaraja Mudaliar asks Bhagavan whether He had heard it when He was living in Virupaksha Guha . Then he quickly corrects himself saying "Bhagavan can hear the Om sound everywhere, why only at Virupaksha".
